PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical Therapists are licensed healthcare professionals who examine, diagnose, and treat movement dysfunction. Physical Therapists work with individuals of all ages impacted by disease, injury, and disability. They help prevent movement loss and promote wellness. Physical therapists develop a physical activity plan for individuals with physical disabilities based on their individual goals, needs, and challenges. They help people overcome barriers to regular physical activity to benefit physical, mental, and social health.

Physical Therapy services typically include an individualized evaluation to assess the individual’s needs, during which the physical therapist, client, and their supporters determine the person’s needs and goals; interventions and recommendations that are person-centered; and a support plan to work toward achieving those goals.

Physical Therapy services can occur in the individual’s home, day program, school, or in the community. The Physical Therapist may assess the environment and how the individual mobilizes in any of these settings to provide specific recommendations to best address barriers and difficulties the individual is facing. Physical Therapy services may include developing a home exercise program specific to the individual, recommendations on Durable Medical Equipment, assisting with obtaining the equipment, and training and education for family members and caregivers.
